The Sundown Audio ZV718D2 is the 18-inch, dual 2-ohm model of the Z v.7, which sits above the M and X v.4 in Sundown's 2025 ultra-high excursion subwoofer lineup. Its custom tooled, patented mega-platform frame carries a quad stacked 265mm (10.43-inch) motor with a 100mm magnet stack and a hyper-extended pole, with clearance for more than 4 inches of peak-to-peak travel before mechanical bottom. Sundown rates the motor force factor (BL^2/RE) at roughly 50% above the Z v.6.
A 3.3-inch, 4-layer round wire aluminum voice coil is wound on a thick aluminum former using Sundown's fat wire method for high power and abuse. The coil is cooled by a patent-pending airflow directing pole cap, six pole OD channels, sixteen gap vents and a cross-drilled, slotted top plate, while a 9mm magnet ID Faraday ring and pole-extension inductance sleeve give linear inductance.
The 95mm winding length allows 42mm of one-way linear excursion by 70% BL. The Z v.7 targets the lowest possible bass extension from a small ported box with very low distortion, and it works in enclosures commonly used for Sundown mega-platform subwoofers.
